Christopher James Chaplin (born July 8, 1962 in Lausanne ) is an English composer and actor who grew up in Switzerland . He is the youngest child of the actor and director Charlie Chaplin and his wife Oona O'Neill .

Life

Christopher James Chaplin was born on the morning of July 8, 1962 in the Clinique Montchoisi in Lausanne . The Chaplin family lived in Corsier-sur-Vevey at the time , where Christopher grew up. He studied piano with Irène Dénéréaz in Vevey before moving to London in the early 1980s .

Chaplin initially focused on an acting career . He made his first film appearance in 1983 in the British comedy Where Is Parsifal? which was shown at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section . He subsequently appeared in several other films, including in 1991 as Franz Kafka in The Labyrinth by the Czech director Jaromil Jireš and in 1995 as Charles Cros in Total Eclipse - The Affair of Rimbaud and Verlaine by the Polish director Agnieszka Holland .

Since 2005 he has mainly worked as a composer . Among other things, he has worked with the German experimental musician Hans-Joachim Roedelius . Chaplin has been under contract with the Austrian music label Fabrique Records since 2010 , where he released his first solo album Je suis le Ténébreux in 2016 . Chaplin combines experimental electronic music with elements of chamber music and contemporary music .
