Christ Church

The Christ Church is the Protestant church in the Hasserode district of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt .

Architecture and history

The church in Lutherstrasse, not far from its confluence with Friedrichstrasse , was built in 1908/1909 in neo-Romanesque style. The stone-built church was designed by the architect Meyer .

The furnishings and the ornamental painting date from the construction period.
The altarpiece and cross in oak with the artistically carved body of Christ in linden wood were created by the company Gustav Kuntzsch , Institute for Church Art, Wernigerode.
The oldest piece of equipment is a
crucifixion tablet created by Adam Offinger in 1598 for Duke Heinrich Julius of Braunschweig . Originally it belonged as an altarpiece to the chapel of Gröningen Castle . The organ of the Christ Church is the work of the organ builder Wilhelm Rühlmann ( Zörbig ). It was built in 1909/1910 (2 manuals , pedal , 24 registers ) and rebuilt in 1974 by organ builder Erwin Lägel ( Orgelbau Schuster , Zittau ).
