Chromium (III) bromide is a chemical compound from the group of bromides .

Extraction and presentation

Chromium (III) bromide can be obtained by reacting chromium with bromine .

Alternatively, it can also be obtained from chromium (III) acetate and acetyl bromide .

properties

Chromium (III) bromide forms shiny black crystals, which appear green in transmitted light and red in reflected light. It is only soluble in water when Cr (II) salts are added. It has a crystal structure of the iron (III) chloride type with the space group R 3 (space group no. 148) and a = 626 pm, c = 1820 pm). The hexahydrate is readily soluble in water and has a purple color. Template: room group / 148
