Chromium (II) sulfide is an inorganic chemical compound of chromium from the group of sulfides .
Extraction and presentation
Chromium (II) sulfide can be obtained by reacting a stoichiometric mixture of chromium and sulfur at 1000 ° C.
It is also formed when chromium (III) sulfide is heated , with other phases such as Cr 3 S 4 , Cr 5 S 6 and Cr 7 S 8 being formed in the meantime .
properties
Pure phase chromium (II) sulfide is a black solid with a monoclinic crystal structure , space group C 2 / c (space group no. 15) , lattice parameters a = 3.826 Å , b = 5.913 Å, c = 6.089 Å and β = 101.6 ° . Even with a small excess of sulfur, a phase with a structure similar to the nickel arsenide type is formed, although other modifications also occur. Chromium (II) sulfide is a semiconductor.
