Chup Friemert (born May 27, 1947 in Westhausen ) is a German designer and design theorist.

Education

Chup Friemert studied product design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart , experimental environmental design in Braunschweig , and journalism, philosophy and economics at the Free University of Berlin . He finished his studies in 1977 with a diploma at the State University of Fine Arts Braunschweig ( humanization of work and trade unions , with Dieter Seitz) and a doctorate at the University of Bremen .

Teaching

From 1971 Chup Friemert held lectureships at various universities on product aesthetics , design history and design theory, in 1984 he became a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg , teaching design history and design theory. He taught as a visiting professor at the Instituto Superior de Diseño Industrial in Havana (1987, 1988 and 1990), at the National Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou , China (1992, 1993, 1995, 1998 and 2003), and at the State University for Design Karlsruhe (1994), where he has been an associated professor since then.

Journalistic activities

From 1986 to 1996 Chup Friemert was permanent editor of the journal Dialektik (including conception and editing of the issue Zur Ästhetik des Territoriums , 2/1994), from 1989 to 2010 co-editor and permanent editor of the journal form und Zweck , and also co-editor of the European Encyclopedia on Philosophy and sciences (Hamburg 1990).
