history

Türpitz on a map from 1746

The oldest written mention in the Tyrpicz spelling dates from November 30, 1292. Türpitz presumably received a church soon after the town was founded towards the end of the 13th century, at least it can be traced back to 1335. The Reformation was introduced in Türpitz early on, and the place has remained evangelical without interruption since 1534. Even during the Counter-Reformation , Türpitz was able to hold on to the evangelical creed without hindrance. The localities Algersdorf , Berzdorf and Pleßguth (all located in the Münsterberg district) , as well as Gut Wilme, district Strehlen, also belonged to the parish. Until 1945 the patronage rested on the manor Türpitz, the Kompatronat on the Gut Wilme.

A devastating fire broke out on May 24, 1800: after a long drought, a thunderstorm hit the village in the evening, lightning struck the parish's horse stable and set the roof on fire. Except parsonage and church six farms, a Freigärtner- and Hofgärtnerstelle, the school that burned in a few hours Baderei and all farm buildings and stables of the dominion down to its walls. The reconstruction of the village was soon started. After the parish and school were restored, the construction of the church began.

On May 7, 1823 the rectory was ravaged by a fire, to which the elderly pastor Benjamin Gottlob Selbstherr fell victim.

The church of Türpitz around 1900

Church of St. Joseph (św. Józefa Oblubieńca) , in its current form from 1801, beautifully renovated in recent years.

Nothing is known about the construction of a previous building, only that a massive church, presumably built in the late Gothic style, stood in the same place as the current church as early as the 15th century . The surrounding walls of this medieval building have been partially preserved as the foundations of today's church; the current main portal as well as the buttresses on the chancel and nave are probably preserved from this previous building. It is not known whether the old church had a tower; In any case, on May 4, 1705, the church roof was torn off and a wooden tower was rebuilt on a square brick substructure. According to old documents, the tower roof was first covered with wooden shingles and on June 4, 1705 a gilded tower button with a likewise gilded weather vane with von Trach's coat of arms and the year 1705 was put on. The weather vane has been preserved to this day.

During the great fire of May 24th, 1800 the church was also destroyed by flames. The outer walls of the old church, as far as they were preserved, were used for the new one. The aforementioned pointed arch portal from the 15th century on the south side of the church survived the fire. As early as November 1, 1801, the senior consistorial councilor Superintendent Jany from Strehlen, who had been pastor in Türpitz from 1774 to 1778, celebrated the first service in the rebuilt church.

During a thunderstorm in the early morning hours of May 31, 1913, lightning struck the church tower again - luckily without damage to it, but it did significant damage inside the church.
