Cilimus (meteorite)
Coordinates: 6 ° 52 '12 " S , 108 ° 7' 48" O Cilimus is a meteorite that hit a garden in the village of Sampora in 1979. The village is located near Sukabumi in the Indonesian province of Jawa Barat (West Java).
history
A fireball and explosions were observed at 9:30 am on Monday, May 7, 1979. Then a stone fell in a garden in the village of Sampora. The meteorite was named after the nearest post office. Soewarno Darsoprajitno, the curator of the Geological Research and Development Center in Bandung , was able to examine the meteorite. It is now in the meteorite collection of the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC (catalog number USNM # 6074).
Appearance and classification
The stone meteorite is a typical shock-deformed olivine - hypersthene - chondrite of class L5 with a weight of 1.6 kilograms.
The stone is light gray in appearance, with black veins running through it. It is covered by a matt black enamel crust. It contains metal and troilite inclusions, which are often surrounded by iron oxide discoloration. Roughly speaking, the mass fraction of the meteorite consists of 89.5 percent silicates , 6.3 percent metal, 4.0 percent troilite and 0.2 percent chromite .

- Sodium Oxide (Na 2 O): 0.94%
- Phosphorus pentoxide (P 2 O 5 ): 0.32%
- Nickel (Ni): 0.26%
- Potassium oxide (K 2 O): 0.14%
- Titanium (IV) oxide (TiO 2 ): 0.14%
