history

The Cinespace is located in the Bremen district of Industriehäfen in the Waterfront Bremen , a shopping center with elements of an urban entertainment center . The shopping center is located on the Weser on a site that was used by Werft AG Weser until 1983 .

The cinema complex was part of the entertainment area of the Urban Entertainment Center with the name Space Park , which was partially opened there in 2004, and continued to operate after it was closed. The construction of the Space Park shopping center was largely completed by 2004, but was not opened due to a lack of anchor tenants and was vacant from September 2004 to August 2008. In March 2006, Space Park was sold to a British financial investor group who sold it on to Irish financial services company LNC Property Group .

The LNC carried out extensive renovation and expansion measures to structurally align the area towards the Weser and to restructure the retail area . In September 2008 the shopping center was reopened under the name Waterfront Bremen and the Cinespace is again part of the newly designed entertainment offer.

The entire cinema complex is air-conditioned and has around 4,000 parking spaces. The operator of the cinema is Burmester Kinobetriebs-GmbH based in Berlin .

Cinemas and technology

The foyer in the Cinespace Multiplex Kino Bremen

The cinema complex of the Cinespace is designed with an unusual exterior and interior architecture , which can be traced back to the creation as part of an entertainment area originally focused on the main theme of space travel . All eleven cinema halls are arranged in one corridor (1st floor) and can be reached from the cinema foyer , which also contains a coffee bar, via a large spiral staircase .

All 11 cinema halls are built according to the THX standard and have the latest audio technology. All halls have Dolby Digital sound and halls 2, 3 and 9 also have Dolby Atmos . Since 2006, the cinema halls have been gradually converted into "digital cinema" using digital projectors in DLP technology . The complete digitization was completed in autumn 2011. Since then, the Cinespace Multiplex Kino has only played digital films. An additional cinema hall, Kino 3 (formerly IMAX ) has been in operation again since the beginning of 2009 and is available for digital cinema and 3D films. In December 2017, two Sony laser projectors were installed in Kino 3.

Since 2009 a total of 7 halls can be used to show 3D films. The polarizing filter technology is used in the 3D halls .

Bremen's cinema hall
Northern Germany's largest canvas

In January 2014, the Cinespace Multiplex Kino had the largest cinema hall equipped with Dolby Atmos . That was the first installation of Dolby Atmos in Northern Germany. 64 QSC loudspeakers were installed, 5 of which were subwoofers , 2 of which were installed opposite the screen on the rear wall. 16 loudspeakers were hung on the cinema ceiling directly above the auditorium in order to reproduce the optimal 3D sound.

Extensive renovation work was then completed in autumn 2018. In addition to completely new seating with luxury armchairs in the entire box area, 10 D-Box seats were installed in each of the 2 cinema halls, which move simultaneously with the film and the sound to create an even greater cinema experience.

In addition, the Cinespace is one of the few German cinemas that regularly show live broadcasts from the New York Metropolitan Opera , the Moscow Bolshoi Theater and the Royal Opera in London. According to the cinema operator, the offer has been successfully accepted and some visitors have even come from Hamburg or Schleswig-Holstein .
