Circle of Contempt is a progressive metal band from Pori , Finland , which was founded in 2006 under the name Thrust Moment.

history

In 2006 the Finnish singer Riku Haavisto, the guitarist Risto-Matti Toivonen, the bassist Markus Karhumäki and the drummer JP Kaukonen founded the band Thrust Moment. In the same year she released her first demo Parallels , which was followed a year later by the EP Rumor Has It ... , which the band, like the demo that was released before, distributed it itself. In March 2008, the band signed a recording contract with the British label Glasstone Records , but the band split up after a short time and released their second EP in September of the same year, which was called Color Lines .

In early 2009, the band changed their name to Circle of Contempt and announced that they had signed a record deal with the US label Sumerian Records . Joni Kosonen also joined as the second guitarist. In March 2009 the band went to Los Angeles to record their debut album, which was released in November under the name Artifacts in Motion . The band then appeared on their first tour of the USA between January and February 2010 alongside the bands Periphery , Veil of Maya and Animals as Leaders . The band then took an almost one-year break, as the members had finished school and Risto-Matti Toivonen and Markus Karhumäki joined the military .

In July 2011, singer Riku Haavisto left the band, whereupon the band announced two months later that they would be back in the studio without a new singer to record a new release. Shortly afterwards, a new singer was found in Denis Hautaniemi. In April 2012 the guitarist Joni Kosonen left the band for personal reasons, whereupon interested parties could apply to the band by email . In October 2012, the band played at the eighth edition of the year in Cologne held festivals euro Blast , where she next to bands like After the Burial , TesseracT or monument occurred and what their first concert outside Finland in Europe showed. Shortly afterwards, the guitarist Ville Patrikainen from Kill the Romance joined the band as the second guitarist and replaced Joni Kosonen, who had left six months earlier. In December of the same year, the band released their third EP called Entwine the Threads , like their debut album, on Sumerian Records, which was limited to 500 copies. It was produced by the guitarist Sami Raatikainen from the band Necrophagist and, in contrast to its predecessor, which was written by Riku Haavisto and Risto-Matti Toivonen, this time it was written by Toivonen alone. In April 2013, the band played their first UK tour alongside Red Seas Fire .
