The Morinablättrige thistle ( Cirsium morinifolium ) is a plant from the genus of thistles ( Cirsium ), and thus the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Cirsium morinifolium is a two-year-old hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 30 to 100 centimeters. The stem is richly branched, hairy and not winged. The leaves are sessile, very wavy and rarely more than 10 millimeters down. The pinnate sections are triangular-lanceolate and have strong, yellowish thorns .

The numerous heads are arranged in a richly branched panicle or umbrella cluster. They are surrounded by eight to twelve bracts , which are sparsely thorny and two to four times as long. The shell has a diameter of 17 to 30 (rarely up to 35) millimeters. The outer bracts are more or less protruding. The crown is pink or whitish in color.

The flowering period extends from July to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.

Occurrence

Cirsium morinifolium is on Crete in the mountains of regional districts Chania , Rethymno , Iraklio and Lasithi endemic . The species grows on overgrazed hedgehog cushion heaths, in mountain forests and in sinkholes at altitudes of 1100 to 2100 meters.
