Clara Wilhelmine Oenicke

Clara Wilhelmine Oenicke (born July 29, 1818 in Berlin ; † August 9, 1899 there ) was a German history , portrait and genre painter .

Life

Clara Oenicke was born in Berlin on July 29, 1818. She was the daughter of the "tobacco spinner" Gustav Adolph Oenicke and Johanna Caroline Spaenhauer . She was baptized on August 16, 1818 in the Sankt Nikolaikirche in Berlin. She had an older sister Wilhelmine Amalie Oenicke (* 1804) and a younger brother Louis Theodor Oenicke . (* 1814).

In 1837 she was a student of Marie Remy , later of Carl Joseph Begas . She was employed in Eduard Magnus' studio . From 1840 she worked independently. In 1867 she founded the “ Association of Artists and Friends of Art in Berlin ” with Marie Remy, Rosa Petzel and Clara Heinke . She died on August 9, 1899 after long and serious suffering. Her last apartment was on Kurfürstenstrasse .
