Clarence Callender

Clarence Callender (born November 16, 1961 in Newham ) is a retired British sprinter .

Life

At the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Callender, starting for England , was sixth in the 100-meter run in 10.42 s . In the 4 x 100 meter relay , the English team made up of Lincoln Asquith , Daley Thompson , Mike McFarlane and Callender finished in 39.19 seconds and won silver, 0.04 seconds behind the Canadian quartet. The following year, the British relay at the World Athletics Championships in Rome was disqualified in the preliminary run. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Callender only appeared in the run-up to the relay. From the semi-finals onwards, Linford Christie ran in the bottom position. Since the relay ran into second place in the final, Callender also received an Olympic silver medal for his preliminary run. In 1990 at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland , Callender was the starting runner of the English relay, which won in 38.67 s in the cast Callender, John Regis , Marcus Adam and Linford Christie.

Clarence Callender is 1.79 m tall and weighed 75 kg when he was active. After his career he became a coach and coached, among others, the British long jumper Jade Johnson .
