Claudia Alice Riegler (born July 16, 1976 in Ebenau , Austria ) is a former New Zealand ski racer. Since she could not qualify for the Austrian national ski team , she started in the Ski World Cup for New Zealand , her mother's country of birth. Riegler mainly drove slalom , occasionally giant slalom .

biography

In her first season in 1994/95 , Riegler achieved valuable points for the slalom start list with an eleventh place in Maribor and a 13th place in Lenzerheide . In the 1995/96 season she achieved several top ranks before she celebrated the first World Cup victory of her career on March 10, 1996 in Narvik . Shortly before, she just missed the medal ranks in fourth at the 1996 World Ski Championships in the Sierra Nevada .

The 1996/97 season was Riegler's most successful season. This winter she won four World Cups. So she finished second in the Slalom World Cup behind Pernilla Wiberg . She was then unable to build on these successes. Too often, her risky driving style didn't pay off and she was eliminated from the races. Occasionally she was able to classify herself among the top ten of a World Cup slalom, most recently as third in December 2002 in Lenzerheide. Riegler contested her last World Cup race on March 15, 2003 in Hafjell near Lillehammer .

Riegler is married to the French downhill Olympic champion Antoine Dénériaz , the couple has two sons. After her skiing career, Riegler worked successively for the New Zealand ski association, Rossignol and Recco .
