Claudius Lavergne

Claudius Lavergne (born December 11, 1815 in Lyon , † December 31, 1887 in Paris ) was a French painter , art critic and glass painter .

education

Lavergne attended school in Lyon and then became a student at the École des Beaux Arts in Lyon. He was a student of Ingres , whom he followed to Rome .

Career

Although Lavergne exhibited in the salons from 1838 to 1878, he remained primarily known as a glass painter. His workshop was at number 74, rue d'Assas in Paris. At the same time he worked as an inspector des monuments historiques for Prosper Mérimée .

Lavergne created eleven windows for St. Peter's Cathedral in Geneva , including a window with St. Clothilde . He created other windows for the Catholic parish church in Combourg , the parish church in Vrigne-aux-Bois ( Ardennes department ) and the church of Saint-André-de-l'Europe in Paris ( 8th arrondissement ).

Claudius Lavergne was married to Julie Ozaneaux , daughter of Georges Ozaneaux (writer and university lecturer). Julie Lavergne became known as a short story writer.
