Claus Müller (born February 20, 1920 in Solingen ; † February 6, 2008 in Aachen ) was a German mathematician .

After studying mathematics in Göttingen and Bonn , he did his doctorate in 1944 at the University of Bonn under Ernst Peschl on "The Schwarz lemma for the functions of several complex variables". During the war he worked in a naval research department on vibrations and radar. Even after the war he occupied himself with the mathematical theory of Maxwell's equations , about which he wrote several books. After the war he worked briefly at the University of Cambridge (Great Britain) and Boeing (USA). In 1955 he became professor for mathematics at RWTH Aachen University and was retired there in 1985.

From 1957 to 1989 at least 34 doctoral students were awarded their doctorate under Claus Müller, including (in chronological order, co-supervised persons marked with an asterisk) Rolf Leis , Horst Niemeyer , Jürgen Batt , Walter Eberhard *, Helmut Neunzert , Alexander Dressler , Peter Hermann *, Joachim Wick , Hubert Kalf , Willi Freeden .
