Claus from Czyl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Claus von Czyl (also Cziel, Czeyl, Zciel, Czelen ) († around 1480 in Dresden ) was a Dresden councilor and mayor who lived in the 15th century .

Life

Nothing is known about the origin of Czyl. It is possible that he was active in the service of the elector before his council membership, as he is referred to in various documents as a bailiff or captain. His name was first mentioned in 1463 as Clauss von Zciihel . Changing spellings of the surname can be found in the Dresden council files and city books.

From 1468 to 1478 Claus von Czyl was hospital master and received 12 old shock groschen for this activity annually , whereby in 1470 he exempted the hospital treasury a quarter of this amount. From 1471 he was a member of the council and took over the office of the governing mayor for the first time the following year. Further years of office were 1475 and 1478. After that he is no longer mentioned in the council registers and probably died around 1480.

family

Some entries in the Dresden city book give an insight into his financial and family circumstances. Czyl was married and had several children. His son Georgius can be found in 1471 as a student in a register at the University of Leipzig . After his death he left his widow Catherine, his son and daughter Margaretha Jurge a Vorwerk in Altendresden which he once the Dresden alderman and mayor nickel proles had bought. His estate also included an acre on Meißnische Strasse and the interest rights to two other houses in Altendresden. After Czyl's death in 1480, his descendants sold these properties to the council of Altendresden.
