Life

Origin and family

Clemens August Heinrich von Korff was born as the son of Franz Otto von Korff. Schmising zu Tatenhausen (1719–1785) and his wife Anna Elisabeth Marie Freiin von Droste zu Vischering (1730–1790, daughter of Maximilian Heidenreich Droste zu Vischering ) in the ancient Born into the Westphalian noble family von Korff . On July 28, 1778, he married Elisabeth Bernhardine von Nagel zur Loburg (1755–1809) in Loburg . The children of the marriage were Maximilian Frederik Hendrik (Drost in Cloppenburg), Maximilian Franz Xaver (District Administrator in the Halle district), Bernhardine (* 1785, ⚭ Wilhelm Freiherr von Imbsen), Rosina (* 1787) and Clemens August Karl (District Administrator in the district Warendorf and Münster).

Act

On April 18, 1775, Clemens August was assigned to his father in the Drostenamt in Cloppenburg. After the death of his father, he was appointed Drosten of the Cloppenburg Office on November 17, 1785. He officiated here until 1802. From 1774 to 1787 he was President of the Court Chamber as well as Oberhofmarschall and Councilor of the Cologne Elector , who was also Prince-Bishop of Münster. Clemens August was the successor to Chamber President Caspar Ferdinand Droste zu Füchten († 1774) in charge of financial supervision during the construction of Münster Castle . When his father died in 1785, he took over the property that was about to go bankrupt . His special merit was that the entire property was saved by a Fideikommiss on June 14, 1778. Clemens August was heir to Lette Castle , which originally belonged to the Lords of Lette. He could not maintain the building, so that the substance fell apart more and more. The high purchase and rental demands put off interested parties. In 1874 the remains of the manorial complex fell victim to the construction of a railway line. On January 17, 1816 he was by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. raised to the Prussian count status. Clemens August was canon in Münster , Minden , Osnabrück and Passau .
