Clemens von Brandis
Clemens von Brandis , officially: Count and Lord zu Brandis, Freiherr zu Leonburg, Forst and Fahlburg (born February 4, 1798 in Lana ; † May 26, 1863 in Schleinitz ) was an Austrian writer, historian, politician and governor of Tyrol .
Life
Clemens von Brandis was born as the son of Johann Baptist Graf Brandis, ordinator of the Styrian estates and vice-president of the redemption and repayment deputation . He studied law and political science and entered the civil service on February 7, 1824 as an unpaid district commissioner.
career
1836-1838 he was district chief of Bozen . In 1838 he was appointed court counselor at the United Court Chancellery in Vienna . On January 28, 1841 he took over the office of governor and governor of Tyrol. In the revolutionary year of 1848 Brandis opposed the demands of the progressive to separate the office of governor from that of governor. On April 30, 1848, Emperor Ferdinand accepted his resignation as governor, and on July 17, 1848, he also had to resign from his position as governor. After his retirement, Emperor Ferdinand I brought him to Vienna and appointed him chief steward . Brandis was also a member of the mansion .
Political and personal work
Brandis was deeply connected to legitimism and conservatism and misunderstood the signs of the times that pointed towards liberalization and democratization. As governor of Tyrol, he primarily promoted the road construction program for the stands . He also achieved that the Approvisioning Fund could be used for this. In doing so, he created the basis for a modern long-distance network in Tyrol. Even after his resignation he worked on the new constitution of Tyrol, where he was a federalist for an extension of the rights of the state parliament.
As a historian, he wrote works on the regional history of Tyrol. The Ferdinandeum Museum owes its boom in the days of Vormärz to him .
