Clemens Mayer (born September 25, 1985 in Brannenburg ) is a German memory athlete who became the first German to become memory world champion (all-around) in 2005 and 2006 . He also runs medium and long-distance running and attended a sports high school in Cottbus for several years . In 2005 he began his studies of law at the LMU in Munich .

World records

  • Memorize 198 digits read out every second
  • Memorize a 1040-digit number in 30 minutes
  • Memorize 90 personal names on the respective faces in 15 minutes

strategy

Mayer relies on a healthy diet and enough sleep to improve his mental performance during competitions. He trains his memory for about 15 minutes every day and about half an hour before championships.

Memory system

Mayer has a picture for each number from 00 to 99 (see major system ). The assignment of the images was completely arbitrary. For a longer series of numbers, he uses the pictures to create stories of different lengths. The length varies between two and eight links depending on the possibility of linking the pictures. He then places these stories on mental pathways. This memory technique is known as the loci method .
