Clive Lamming

Clive Lamming (born August 17, 1938 ) is a French historian . He is the author of numerous publications in the field of rail transport .

Life

Lamming's mother worked as an interpreter for Charles de Gaulle in London during World War II , and his father was English . After her divorce and the end of the German occupation , she returned to France with six-year-old Clive.

After studying philosophy and training as a teacher , he became a lecturer at the École normal nationale d'apprentissage and the École normal supérieure Paris-Saclay . As a professional education teacher, he taught trainers at the Center de formation des apprentis (CFA) of the national railway company Société nationale des chemins de fer français (SNCF). In 1993 he received his doctorate with the Rigorosum Évolution des politiques de traction et des techniques de traction à la SNCF at the Paris University of Sorbonne .

Lamming collects historical documents and photos on the subject of rail transport. As a railway historian, Lamming published numerous works, including Larousse des trains et des chemins de fer , Métro insolite and Trains de légende . He works for the journal Revue générale des chemins de fer and has been a member of the Commission nationale des monuments historiques since 2007 . In 2010 he worked for several months as a consultant to director Martin Scorsese for his film Hugo Cabret , and in 2017 he advised Kenneth Branagh on the shooting of the film Murder on the Orient Express . In July 2011, Lamming gave two lectures on the subject of "Railways in Afghanistan" at the G8 summit in Paris.

Initially, Lamming dealt with the implementation of real models in model railways . In 1969 he published the article Le Chemin de fer passion in Loco Revue . De la réalité au train miniature . His first book Pratique realiste du modelisme ferroviaire was published in 1979, after having worked in other works in the meantime .
