The Clyde River is a river in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales .

The Aboriginal people called the river Bhundoo .

The river has its source in the Budawang Range , around 30 kilometers inland from the coast at Milton . It flows largely parallel to the coast to the south, where it flows into the sea at Batemans Bay . The lower reaches of the Clyde River forms an estuary that can be navigated by smaller seagoing vessels as far as Nelligen .

Surname

The river was named by Lieutenant Robert Johnson after the River Clyde in Glasgow , Scotland . This went up the river on December 1, 1821 in the cutter Snapper .

The Clyde River National Park is located on the lower reaches of the river.

The water quality in the catchment area of the river is very good. The upper part is densely forested (state forest and Morton National Park ). Only the Yadboro State Forest has little logging. There are no industrial operations in the catchment area that could pollute the water, nor are there any wastewater discharges. Thus, the river has the reputation of the cleanest, least polluted large river in eastern Australia.

In addition, the Clyde River is one of the last rivers in eastern Australia that was not regulated.
