The Codex Marchalianus (Siglum Q) is a parchment manuscript that was written in Egypt by the 6th century at the latest . It contains the text of the great and minor prophets of the Old Testament in Greek ( Septuagint ).

The manuscript now consists of 416 parchment leaves, the first twelve of which were added at a later date and are inscribed with patristic texts. The sheets are 29 × 18 cm in size and are single-columned with 29 lines each in uncial Coptic style. Numerous comments and corrections from the period up to the 9th century have been added in the margin and in the text.

The manuscript contains the text of the twelve little prophets , the books Isaiah , Jeremiah with the Lamentations , Epistle of Jeremiah and Baruch , Ezekiel and Daniel with Susanna and Bel. The text follows the Hesychian review , the book of Daniel the version by Theodotion . As in Codex Vaticanus Graecus 1209, the order of the twelve minor prophets differs from the usual and is: Hosea , Amos , Micha , Joel , Obadja , Jonah , Nahum , Habakkuk , Zefaniah , Haggai , Zechariah , Malachi .

The notes reproduce in detail the version of the Hexapla .

The tetragram is mostly in Greek with IAO, in some books reproduced in imitation of the Hebrew letters with the Greek ΠΙΠΙ. At one point it was later corrected to kyrios .

history

The manuscript originated in Egypt; palaeographically it is dated to the 6th century at the latest. It stayed there until at least the 9th century, as the additions show.

She came to southern Italy in the 12th century at the latest. From there it came to France, where one of its owners was René Marchal. It has been in the Vatican Library in Rome since 1785 , with the signature Cod.Vat.gr. 2125.
