Acquisitions

Laser Optronic

The Laser Optronic GmbH was a company for laser precision devices, headquartered in Munich, the Falk F. Strascheg was founded in 1971 as a distributor of lasers and laser components, after his previous employer, the British company Laser Associates had gone bankrupt. Laser-Optronics dealt mainly with the construction of laser precision devices, also for the military. So it was as a subcontractor for Krauss-Maffei , for example involved in the Leopard 2 . The company manufactured laser marking systems and laser cutting machines. In 1981 the company began researching its own CO 2 laser beam sources. Coherent bought Laser-Optronics after an investigation into Laser-Optronic for divulging military secrets. Under Coherent, research on the CO 2 laser continued, but without success.

In 1989 Rofin took over the company from Coherent.

Lambda Physik, Tui Laser, Bavaria Photonics and Lumera Laser

In 1982 Coherent became the majority shareholder (in 2005 complete takeover and exclusion of minority shareholders ) of the German laser manufacturer Lambda Physik , which was later renamed Coherent. In June 2005 Coherent took over the Munich laser companies Tui Laser and Bavarian Photonics. The Munich location was reduced to 2 employees and activities were relocated to Göttingen. At the end of 2012, Coherent announced the takeover of the German company Lumera Laser, which was at times world market leader in the field of ultra-short pulse lasers for industrial micromachining.

Lumera laser

At the end of 2012, Coherent expanded its expertise in the field of industrial picosecond lasers with the acquisition of the German laser manufacturer Lumera Laser.
