The yellow daisy ( Coleostephus myconis ) is a species of the genus Coleostephus in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

description

The yellow marguerite is an annual species, like the common seed flower ( Glebionis segetum ) . The up to 45 centimeters high, mostly bare, ribbed stems are fairly upright and rarely, rarely branched.

The simple and alternate, mostly bald to sparsely hairy, serrate to toothed leaves are 2–5 centimeters long, they are obovate to spatulate and rounded to blunt. The middle ones encompass half the stem, the lower ones are petiolate.

The flower heads are 2–3 centimeters wide with yellow, hermaphroditic disc and yellow to whitish, female ray florets . The up to 15 millimeters long tongues are ribbed and indented to three-lobed, -toothed. The slightly hairy and greenish bracts in two or three rows are rounded to blunt and membranous on top, with brownish edges. The flower base is conical and pitted. The achenes , with a carpopodium (callus), the disk flowers are ribbed and have a crooked, membranous crown. Those of the ray florets are sterile with a membranous pappus .

The flowering period is April to August.

The chromosome number is 2n = 18.

Helv. 16: 49, 1853 placed in the genus Coleostephus . Synonyms of Coleostephus myconis (L.) Rchb.f. are Kremeria myconis (L.) Maire , Leucanthemum myconis (L.) Giraudias , Myconella myconis (L.) Sprague , Myconia myconis (L.) Briq. , Chrysanthemum hybridum cast. and Coleostephus hybridus (Guss.) Lange and Coleostephus myconis (L.) Cass.

Systematics

The widespread yellow daisy has only two close relatives in the Mediterranean region:

  • Coleostephus multicaulis (Desf.) Durieu : It occurs in Algeria .
  • Coleostephus paludosus (Durieu) Alavi (Syn .: Coleostephus clausonis Pomel ): It occurs in Portugal, Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily and Libya . The leaves of this species are irregularly serrated.
