Colinas do Tocantins , officially Município de Colinas do Tocantins , is the seventh largest city in the Brazilian state of Tocantins in the Região Norte . It is 274 km from the capital of Palma . The population was estimated on July 1, 2019 at 35,424 inhabitants, called Colinese (Portuguese colinenses ), who live in an area of around 844 km². The population density is 36.5 people per km².
history
The settlement was built during the construction of the BR-153 north-south motorway, which opened in 1959 . The place was initially called from April 21, 1960 Vila de Colinas de Goiás , became a Munizip on October 23, 1963 and belonged to the state of Goiás until the state was founded in 1988 by Tocantins . In 1989 the place was renamed Município de Colinas de Tocantins , which expresses the new affiliation. In the early days, the place experienced a great increase through internal migration , which also led to a heterogeneous population structure.

The landscape and climate are those of the Brazilian Cerrado . There is a tropical savanna climate, according to the Köppen and Geiger Aw climate classification . The height above sea level is 227 meters.
Surrounding towns are Bandeirantes do Tocantins (35.3 km away), Brasilândia do Tocantins (37.1 km away) and Nova Olinda (47.2 km away).
City administration
Executive: In the local elections in 2016, Adriano Rebelo was appointed city prefect (mayor) for the term from 2017 to 2020. He is a member of the Partido Republicano Brasileiro (PRB).
The legislature lies with a 13-member city council, the vereadores of the Câmara Municipal, and in 2017 the presidency was with Washington Aires.
The community forms a multiple district.
