The Colors of Gospel are a gospel choir founded in Mainz in 1998 and led by Collins Nyandeje ; they occur mainly in Germany and have been non-profit and non-denominational since 2004.

Choir

The choir consists of about 50 singers in the line-up of SAMst ( soprano , alto , tenor ), that is, all men sing the high register, rarely also SATB with an additional bass part . The bass line is therefore usually taken over by the backing band. The members come from different regions of the Rhine-Main area.

Visually, the choir community forms a rainbow; analogous to the fact that the gospel songs come from various composers around the world. The choreography and the entire performance are intended to encourage the concert-goers to actively sing along and dance along.

repertoire

The Colors of Gospel interpret gospel music very diverse, by resorting to a wide repertoire from the US to Africa Gospel and to Christian Choral Music, in the German praise and worship , English Worship is called. Soloists are often used to bring this praise to life. At concerts, the choir is accompanied by the band "Fools of Rhythm" with keyboard , electric guitar , electric bass and drums . This is supplemented by a wind ensemble in the appropriate rooms.

The repertoire mostly consists of traditional American gospels, black gospel , white gospel and negro spiritual , which are arranged by choirmaster Collins Nyandeje. But also contemporary manifestations in the gospel scene such as the Latin Gospel from the soundtrack of the film " The Gospel " with the songs: "He Reigns" ( Kirk Franklin ), "Glorious" and "Because of who you are" ( Martha Munizzi ), " Friend of God ”( Israel Houghton ) and“ You Are Good ”(Kirk Franklin) are taken up. Most of the texts are in English.

It is the declared aim of the choir to proclaim the Christian faith in churches and concert halls through the dynamism and power of gospel and to inspire concert-goers who are believers and those who are distant from the church.
