Combaya is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Combaya is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Combaya in the province of Larecaja . The village is located at an altitude of 3217 m on a plateau above one of the tributaries to the Río San Cristobál , the water of which flows into the Río Mapiri .

Combaya is located east of the Bolivian Altiplano in the Cordillera Muñecas , which is part of the high mountain range of the Cordillera Central . The region has a distinctive time-of-day climate in which the mean temperature fluctuation over the course of the day is more pronounced than over the course of the seasons.
The mean annual temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see Sorata climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate only slightly between 15 ° C in July and 20 ° C in December. From La Paz the asphalted highway Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers northwest to Huarina , from there the Ruta 16 branches off in a northerly direction , which reaches Achacachi after 23 kilometers and then continues on the east bank of Lake Titicaca towards Ancoraimes . After 17 kilometers an unpaved road turns northeast into the valleys of the Cordillera Muñecas, passes Sorejaya and after 22 kilometers reaches Combaya .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Combaya 98.5 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
