The municipality Combaya is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality Combaya is one of eight municipalities in the province of Larecaja and is located in the south-western part of the province. It is bordered by the municipality of Tacacoma to the north and east , the province of Muñecas to the northwest , and the province of Omasuyos to the southwest and south .

The municipality measures about eight kilometers in north-south direction and twelve kilometers in east-west direction. The municipality has 17 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Combaya with 897 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the northern part of the district, the most populous place is Sorejaya with 1,222 inhabitants in the southern part.

The municipality Combaya is located east of the Bolivian Altiplano in the Cordillera Muñecas , which belongs to the high mountain range of the Cordillera Central .
