Computer Bild from Axel-Springer-Verlag is a computer magazine that is published in several countries, sometimes under a different name.

In Germany, Computer Bild is one of the highest-circulation and best-selling computer magazines, after the c't . The first edition was published on September 2, 1996 at a price of DM 1, under the direction of Harald Kuppek, editor-in-chief at the time. In addition to computer topics, information should also be given about telecommunications, hi-fi, video and TV. According to the editorial of the first edition, (quotations) should take the reader by the hand in this jungle of information, with real comprehensibility , reading fun , clear judgments with traffic light colors and expensive, complex comparison tests .

Germany

The proper spelling in Germany is COMPUTERBILD or COMPUTER BILD , also CoBi and CB for short .

Content

The magazine is aimed at PC beginners who use the Microsoft Windows operating system . All technical terms are always explained and the explanations are illustrated with many screenshots that show the reader every click of the mouse in detail. Each issue contains tests on various electronic accessories (e.g. memory cards ) or standard hardware .

variants

Computer Bild is available from the many magazine dealers in Germany, Austria and the German-speaking part of Switzerland in different versions: without data carrier , with CD or with DVD .

The CD contains most of the software discussed in the magazine plus one or more free versions of the program for the title topic.

In addition to the contents of the CD, the DVD almost always contained a film that could also be played on a DVD player ; Since December 2019, Computer Bild no longer offers a film on DVD, but a voucher for the respective film to stream in HD at Netzkino . Bitdefender Internet Security and COMPUTER BILD rip-off protection have been included on every medium (since 2019) . The media usually contain one to five purchase programs, only special editions contain more such programs.

In Germany, Computer Bild is available by subscription in three versions: as a booklet, with CD and with DVD. Delivered carriage paid, they cost just as much as in kiosk sales.

management

Harald Kuppek founded the magazine and was also publisher and editor-in-chief until December 2006. From 2007 to 2016 the publisher was the former Bild editor-in-chief (until 2015) Kai Diekmann .

Hans-Martin Burr had been editor-in-chief since October 2006; he left the company on February 28, 2012 at his own request. Axel Telzerow was editor-in-chief from 2012 to 2017 . He was followed by Dirk Kuchel in 2018.

Special issues and accessories

Computer Bild regularly publishes special issues.

In cooperation with Kaspersky Lab, Computer Bild offered the Kaspersky Security Suite CBE (Computer Bild Edition), which was included in almost every CD / DVD edition until October 2012 and was valid until May 2013. In May 2013, however, Kaspersky was swapped for Norton Internet Security CBE , which in turn was replaced by G Data Security Suite CBE at the beginning of 2014 . The Kaspersky Security Suite CBE was always the previous version of the current Kaspersky Internet Security and was suitable for Windows from XP. In addition, a software called Computer Bild-Ripzockschutz is offered, which is supposed to warn of fraudsters on the Internet.

Books

In the Ullstein publishing paperbacks are various computer topics under the name of Computer Bild published that can be ordered for purchase in bookstores or through the online store.

Computer image vs. Unister

On June 28, 2012, Computer Bild published research results in its 15/2012 issue, which suggested that the Leipzig company Unister was trying to gain the trust of potential customers with unclean methods and then "ripped them off", for example with the websites fluege.de, Flug24.de, Billigfluege.de, ab-in-den-urlaub.de, Travel24.com, Reisen.de ,vergleich.de or Partnersuche.de. After an unsuccessful warning from Unister at the beginning of July 2012, Unister obtained a court order at the Leipzig Regional Court to prevent further distribution of the computer image output.

Computer Bild's allegations against Unister included inadmissibly added service flat rates, an opaque company structure, invented, deleted, higher comparison prices for flight offers, bought apparent consumer protection seals, constructed comparison portals that only compared group companies with one another without revealing this togetherness and other things.

Edition

Computer Bild has lost a lot of its circulation in recent years . The number of copies sold has fallen by 83.8 percent since 1998. It is currently 153,543 copies. This corresponds to a decrease of 795,918 units. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 51.9 percent.

Internet portal

In July 2007, Computer Bild launched an Internet portal that also contains the online content of Computer Bild Games and Audio Video Foto Bild . The online portal was operated by Computerbild Online Dienstleistungs-GmbH. In addition to the content of the print magazine, there are daily news, an interactive price comparison and until 2018 there was a forum on the topics of hardware, software and telecommunications. The editor-in-chief of the online offering is Felix Disselhoff.

In February 2012, due to the sharp drop in sales, it was announced that the editorial team for the print edition and the online edition would be merged under the umbrella of Computer Bild Digital GmbH ( partial transfer of operations ). Since this subsidiary, unlike the previous direct employer, Axel Springer AG, is not bound by collective bargaining agreements , employees of the print editorial team protested against the procedure.

In August 2013, Axel Springer AG relaunched the Computer Bild website. According to the company, this should reach new regular users and new target groups.

According to the AGOF, the Computer Bild website reached 13.56 million people (unique users) in May 2013. In July 2013, the IVW reported 42.67 million total visits.

Offshoot

Computer Bild Spiele first appeared as an offshoot in 1999 , which was discontinued in August 2019. This was followed in 2004 by Audio Video Foto Bild , which was developed from the entertainment electronics, music and film editors of Computer Bild.
