action

Fifteen-year-old Cole was kicked out of his Detroit school and dropped off by his mother at his father Harp's in Philadelphia, 600 miles away. Cole doesn't know his father. He prefers to spend his time in the stables with the horses on Fletcher Street, as the city keeps a cowboy subculture alive that has existed for more than 100 years. Despite the poverty, violence and increasing gentrification, this culture on horseback gives the people in this community support and stability, but the city wants to close the club.

Cole reconnects with Smush, his childhood best friend, but who is involved in drug deals.

Literary template

The film is based on the novel Ghetto Cowboy by Greg Neris . Neri got the idea for the story after reading an article in LIFE Magazine in April 2005 entitled "Street Riders" about urban riders in Philadelphia and Brooklyn and Queens. In Philadelphia, the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club was founded, which cultivates the urban cowboy subculture. This custom, cultivated for several generations by a community of young African-American riders in one of the darkest neighborhoods of the city, in one of the darkest neighborhoods of the city, teaches the children of the neighborhood to ride and is considered a haven of peace in the middle of the ghetto. In addition, dealing with horses is an extremely valuable educational method of teaching children and adults responsibility and discipline. The horses are bought cheaply at auctions, usually the club saves the animals from the horse butcher. The area around Fletcher Street is characterized by high unemployment and drugs, and the Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club has made it its mission to provide a positive environment and a certain stability to the children who otherwise receive no support from any side.
