Connoquenessing Creek in Butler

The Connoquenessing Creek is an 80 km long river in the western US state of Pennsylvania .

The outflow is via the Beaver River , Ohio River and Mississippi River into the Gulf of Mexico . The Connoquenessing Creek is part of the river system of the Mississippi River and drains an area of 865 square kilometers. The river has its source in eastern Butler County near the village of East Butler and flows in a southwesterly direction into Lake Oneida Reservoir . Beyond the dam, it passes the town of Butler , and then meanders to the west-northwest. At Ellwood City the Connoquenessing Creek flows into the Beaver River. The river is a destination for many water sports enthusiasts , because with rapids of white water difficulty II and III it offers attractive racing routes for canoeists .

The settlement of the steel industry in the upper reaches of Butler makes the river one of the most polluted waters in the region.
