Conor Paul Clifford (born October 1, 1991 in Dublin ) is an Irish football player who currently plays for St Patrick's Athletic .

Career

society

Conor Clifford began his career in the youth of Crumlin United , where he was active until 2007. In 2007 he moved to England and joined the Chelsea FC youth academy . In June 2008 he received a full-time scholarship. During the 2009-10 season he captained the Chelsea academy team. Also when he won the FA Youth Cup in the final against Aston Villa , where he scored a goal in a 2-1 win. Chelsea won the title for the first time since 1961. In October 2010 it was loaned to Plymouth Argyle for a month . Just one day later, he made his debut for Plymouth in a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town and thus his first professional game ever. His loan was extended in November and only returned to Chelsea with seven league games in December. Both clubs had agreed to another loan period, but the club's financial problems caused another loan to fail. On February 11, 2011, he was awarded for a month in Notts County from Football League One . After nine league appearances, he returned to the "Blues" on April 7th.

In November 2011 he was loaned to Yeovil Town for a month and scored a goal in his first FA Cup game against Fleetwood Town (2-2). In December the loan period was extended for another month. For the 2012/13 season, Clifford was loaned to Portsmouth FC for a month . He made his debut in a 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth and in his second game he scored a goal against Carlisle United . However, it was decided not to extend the loan period.

In January 2013 he was fired from Chelsea. After his release, he trained at Leicester City and scored the 2-1 winner in the amateur game against Birmingham City . On March 9, he signed a contract until the end of the season, but without completing a single game for the professional team, he left the club at the end of the season.

On August 1, 2013, he signed a two-year contract with fourth division club Southend United . Clifford made his debut in the season opener against Plymouth Argyle and scored his first league goal on October 5 in a 2-0 win over Oxford United . For the 2015/16 season he moved to Boreham Wood in the sixth class Conference South . At the beginning of 2017, a one-year stint at Dundalk FC followed and then six months without a club. He moved to St Patrick's Athletic in July 2018 , but had also played for Limerick FC for three months before that .

National team

Clifford played for the Irish U-17 and U-19 national teams. He has been active for the U-21 national team since 2009 . The Irish Association named Clifford the 2006 U-16 Player of the Year and 2010 U-19 Player of the Year.
