Conrad Sonderegger

Conrad Sonderegger (born June 12, 1858 in Heiden ; † April 17, 1938 in Bad Ragaz ; resident in Rehetobel ;) was a Swiss engineer and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden . He was an honorary citizen of Bad Ragaz.

Life

Conrad Sonderegger was a son of Johann Conrad Sonderegger and Anna Katharina Hohl. In 1887 he married Maria Agripina Zuloaga from Jipijapa, Ecuador . From 1876 to 1880 he completed a civil engineering degree at the Polytechnic in Munich and in Berlin . From 1881 to 1889 he worked as an engineer in the construction of the Panama Canal . From 1881 to 1884 he was an employee of the Panama Society. From 1884 to 1889 he was active in construction with his own company. After his return to Switzerland, he served as a free-thinking cantonal councilor in Appenzell Ausserrhoden from 1890 to 1892 . He built the model farm Zur Tanne bei Wald and today's Hotel Schloss Ragaz. He was a member of the Appenzell Charitable Society .
