Coprolith is a Finnish black and death metal band from Porvoo that was formed in 2001.

history

After his previous band Furia broke up, guitarist and singer Ben Pakarinen decided to start a new one at the end of 2001. In early 2002 the guitarist Kari and the drummer Tony joined them. A first demo was recorded later that year, Supreme Hate . At that time the group did not have a bass player, but Jouni Korhonen soon joined them and new songs could be written. In the fall of 2006, the recordings for the demo World Falls Down began when Kari unexpectedly left the band. The demo appeared in December of the same year. In 2007 JP Mikkonen was added as the new guitarist, while Aleksi Tervo took over the drums. The first appearances followed. In 2008 more concerts were held, and the EP Death Only was released. In September Mikkonen decided to leave the group, whereupon Lars-Erik Kuli Kullström joined as a replacement. In October a first small tour with Pantheon I and Enochian Crescent was held. In December the band went to the studio to record three new songs. In 2009 the recordings for the debut album followed, which was released in June 2010 under the name Cold Grief Relief on Violent Journey Records . In order to promote the album, the group performed at the metal camp in Slovenia and toured Europe , Scandinavia and the Baltic States . Coprolith performed together with Deicide , Lamb of God , Arch Enemy , Textures , Den Saakaldte and Gorgoroth , among others . In February 2012, the EP Hate Infected was released as another sound carrier. After the single Life = Disease was released, they went on a tour of China in 2013 . The single was a foretaste of the album Death March , which was released in March 2014 on Violent Journey Records. To promote the album, they went on various tours through Russia , the Baltic States, Europe, Poland and in September in China and played at the Dismember Festival in Romania for the first time in November . In 2015 the band could be seen in Finland at the Steelfest Open Air and at the Polish Niech Cisza Milczy Festival .

style

Aleksie from metalreviews.com wrote about Cold Grief Relief that it featured dark Black Metal with frequent Death Metal influences. The singing consists of growls and screams . The music is fast and technically demanding, but not very memorable. Songs like Dead Endless and Hate Rapture offer more groovy Death Metal. In his review of Death March, Christoph from metal.de also assigned the group to Death and Black Metal. On the sound carrier there is “chanting that sometimes goes into low registers”, whereby the entire sound of the music is too sterile, overproduced and not very original.
