Coquille is a City and at the same administrative center ( the county seat ) of Coos County in the US -amerikanischen State Oregon . In 2013 there were 3820 inhabitants.

Coquille is located at 43 ° 10'46 "north latitude and 124 ° 11'15" west longitude on Oregon State Highway OR 42 . By Coquille flowing Coquille River , the tide can still be felt here. At its mouth about 20 kilometers to the west lies the city of Bandon on the Pacific Ocean . Eugene is about 150 kilometers northeast of Coquille.
Demographic data
In 2010 a population of 3820 people was determined, which corresponds to a decrease of 8.7% compared to 2000. The average age of the residents in 2010 was 45.8 years. The proportion of whites was almost 90%, 5% are Hispanics .
history
The name of the city comes from the Coquille Indian tribe living in the area . After it was founded in 1885, the economic basis of the settlement was based on the timber industry. The transport of goods and people took place mainly on water by steam ships . In 1896, Coquille took over the administrative seat of Coors County.
Due to the proximity to the Oregon Coast Range and the abundance of fish in the Coquille River, the city is now increasingly active in the tourism sector. Fishing, cycling and hiking tours are offered.
Built in 1901 in the Queen Anne style for a businessman, the AJ Sherwood House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places . In 2005 the Coquille Valley Museum opened . A summer theater was set up in a historic sawmill.
The National Park Service lists a total of six structures for Coquille in the National Register of Historic Places (as of January 5, 2019).
