Cord Meier-Klodt

Cord Meier-Klodt (* 1958 in Hamburg ) is a German diplomat and has been an ambassador to Romania since 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school , in 1979 he began to study philosophy and Romance studies at the University of Hamburg , the University of Paris and the University of Grenoble and graduated from the University of Paris after obtaining the License Lettres franco-allemandes at the University of Paris (1983) Hamburg passed the state examination in 1984 .

career

He then joined the foreign service and, after completing his career test, was employed as first secretary at the embassy in Ghana from 1985 to 1987 , before he was political advisor for Central and Eastern Europe at the foreign office in Bonn . He then was Deputy Head of the Consulate General in Saint Petersburg between 1992 and 1995 and subsequently Counselor at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City .

In 1998 he returned to the headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office and became Deputy Head of Unit in the Global Issues Task Force and, from 2002 to 2005, Head of the Press and Public Relations Department of the Embassy in Russia . He then returned to the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin as head of the department for fundamental issues of culture and education , before he was head of the cultural department of the embassy in the United Kingdom between 2008 and 2011 .

From August 2011 to July 2014, Cord Meier-Klodt was Envoy and Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to India and at the same time head of the Department for Economics and Global Issues. In this function he was for a long time (November 2011 to July 2012) as chargee ad interim head of the embassy.

From 2014 to 2015 Meier-Klodt was the Federal Foreign Office's representative for Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the states of the Caucasus and Central Asia. In 2016 he was special representative of the German OSCE Chairmanship for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict . Cord Meier-Klodt has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bucharest since January 9, 2017 .
