Cornel Cernea (born April 22, 1976 in Slobozia , Ialomița district ) is a former Romanian football player . The goalkeeper played a total of 121 games in the Romanian League 1 . In 2006 he won the Romanian championship with Steaua Bucharest .

Career

Cornel Cernea's career began at Minerul Motro , where he had been under contract since the beginning of 1997 in the second highest Romanian division, Divizia B (now Liga II ). There he was rarely used as a substitute goalkeeper. After a brief interlude at his former club Grivița Bucharest, he committed Petrolul Ploiesti , who played in Divizia A (now Liga I ) during the winter break of 1999/2000 . There he was used more often from the 2000/01 season , but could not establish himself as number 1 over a longer period of time.

During his time at Petrolul, Cernea rose from Divizia A in 2002 . After being promoted immediately, he left the club in 2003 to join Oțelul Galați . With Oțelul he was able to reach the 2004 cup final , where he was defeated by Dinamo Bucharest . Nevertheless, the club reached the qualification for the European Cup .

In 2005, the opportunity arose for Cernea to move to a top Romanian club by joining Steaua Bucharest . But with the exception of the 2006/07 season he was rarely used there, so that he had only a small share in the 2006 championship . After four years he left Steaua and moved to Unirea Alba Iulia in 2009 , which had just been promoted to League 1. After relegation at the end of the 2009/10 season , he moved again to a newcomer - this time to Victoria Brăneşti .

He left Victoria after just two months and has been playing for league rivals Unirea Urziceni since September 2010 . With his new club he joined at the end of the 2010/11 season in the Liga II from. Since Unirea had disbanded in June 2011, he moved to Farul Constanța in Liga II. There he ended his active career at the end of 2011.
