Cornelia Halbheer (born August 16, 1992 ) is a Swiss athlete who specializes in short sprints and also competes in the relay . She was also successful in the long jump .

career path

In primary school, Halbheer attended the athletics school of the LV Winterthur , and is now studying for a Masters in Banking and Finance at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).

Athletic career

Even in her youth, Cornelia Halbheer was interested in athletics. When she was seven years old, she took part in the «Schnällscht Winterthurer». At the U12 she tried all running disciplines, but also the technical disciplines and the all-around competition were on her program.

In 2009, Halbheer won gold at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EOYF) in Tampere ( Finland ) with the 4 x 100 meter relay . In 2011 she switched to the short sprint disciplines of 100 and 200 meters . In 2014, Half Army came third in the long jump at the Swiss Indoor Championships in Magglingen with 5.73 m. In the 200-meter run she became Swiss U23 champion and won bronze at the Swiss championships over 100 meters. In 2016 she was eliminated from the 200-meter heats at the European Championships in Amsterdam .

2017 was her most successful year to date. At the beginning of February, half army ran a personal best of 7.47 s over 60 meters at the indoor meeting in Magglingen . At the Whitsun meeting in Zofingen in early June, she improved over 100 meters to 11.44 s. In Geneva a week later she set a new best time in 43.35 s at the AtletiCAGenève with the 4 x 100 meter relay . Halbheer achieved another personal best at the Swiss Championships in Zurich over the 200-meter distance in 23.16 s and thus took 3rd place.

In 2018, on July 14th, she won an individual gold medal for the first time at the National Championships in Zofingen. With a time of 23.14 s over 200 meters, she improved her record from 2017. On June 16, she ran the first stage over 4x400 meters at the CITIUS meeting in Bern with Robine Schürmann, Sarah Atcho and Lea Sprunger in the Swiss national team. The time of 3: 29.46 minutes was the second fastest time of a Swiss women's team which qualified for the European Championships in Berlin . In these, Cornelia Halbheer competes over 200 meters on August 10 and reached the semi-finals here.

Internationally, the Swiss team rose to the Super League with a 3rd place in the 1st league of the European Team Championship in Vaasa , to which Half Army contributed with a 2nd place in the 200-meter run. At the World Championships in London , she was eliminated in the 200-meter heats. At the Universiade in Taipei , she won gold in the 4 x 100 meter relay with Ajla Del Ponte , Salomé Kora and Selina von Jackowski and came 9th in the 200 meter run.
