history

The forerunner of the magazine was founded as an e-mail newsletter in Switzerland in 1997 by Philipp Ruch under the name “WOR” or “WORM”. Ruch was editor-in-chief, with Rafael Scholl and Martin Seebacher serving as additional editors. The initial readership consisted of 50 predominantly CompuServe users. In terms of content, the newsletter mainly dealt with Star Trek .

In the same year with the 25th issue, the newsletter was renamed “Star Trek Outpost for Relevant Messages” (STORM) and presented itself in a more complex way: Instead of a simple list of messages, it now had several sections, a table of contents and direct links to the most important messages.

In mid-1998 Philipp Ruch was editor-in-chief and Rafael Scholl was deputy editor-in-chief. Other senior editors were Markus Müller, Martin Seebacher and Markus Wüthrich. Text chief Dennis Horn later also became editor-in-chief.

After the 40th edition in 1998, the newsletter was renamed "Corona". The circulation was now 4,670 readers. Dennis Horn succeeded Philipp Ruch as editor-in-chief in September 1999 with the 55th edition . The circulation is 8,570 readers.

With the October 2014 issue, Corona Magazine changed its publication frequency to a free e-book, which can be downloaded from all common portals. An e-book-compatible display device ( Amazon Kindle , Tolino , iPhone / iPad, Android smartphone / tablet, etc.) or appropriate software on the PC (e.g. Caliber or Adobe Digital Editions ) is required for reading . Mike Hillenbrand and Jennifer Christina Michels were editors and editors-in-chief from 2014 to 2018 .

Mike Hillenbrand is also the publisher, Björn Sülter has been editor-in-chief since 2018 . The team of around 30 editors includes a. well-known writers and professional journalists, editors and translators such as Armin Rößler , Bernd Perplies , Christian Humberg and Hermann Ritter .

In the course of its 17-year history, numerous professionals from the media world have written in Corona Magazine. Since 2017, the online Corona Magazine has been giving awards together with the magazine Fantastisch! the audience award German Fantasy Prize .

content

At times when several Star Trek and other science fiction series ( Babylon 5 , Space 2063 or the X-Files ) ran parallel on television, most of the magazine articles also referred to Star Trek and science fiction. Due to the dwindling audience interest in these topics, more franchises have been added to the reports and articles over time. The fantasy division was also increasingly included. Today Corona Magazine deals with all topics related to fantastic worlds.

Regular sections in the magazine are:

  1. Spotlight (lead story )
  2. News from the SF, book, TV and cinema world
  3. TV tips with a focus on science fiction and fantasy
  4. Reviews of films, books, comics, etc.
  5. Interviews with authors, actors, draftsmen etc.
  6. Science articles
  7. Short story

The magazine has remained non-commercial to this day.
