Corpa is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

Corpa is the central place in the canton of Villa Asunción de Machaca and the most populous place in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Jesús de Machaca in the province of Ingavi . Corpa is located at an altitude of 3873  m, fifteen kilometers south of Lake Titicaca on the western edge of the Río Desaguadero , halfway between the village of Jesús de Machaca and Desaguadero . To the northeast of Jesús runs a long ridge that rises to a height of 4,826 m.

Corpa lies between the mountain ranges of the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east in the Andean dry climate of the Altiplano with an average annual rainfall of around 600 mm (see Comanche climate diagram). The region has a distinctive time-of-day climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than in the course of the seasons.

The mean annual temperature of the region is 7 ° C, the monthly values ​​fluctuate only slightly between 4 ° C in July and 8.5 ° C in December (see Comanche climate diagram). The average annual precipitation is about 560 mm, the monthly precipitation is between under 10 mm in the months May to August and just over 100 mm in January and February.

Corpa is located at a distance of 124 kilometers by road southwest of La Paz , the capital of the department.

From La Paz the paved road Ruta 2 leads west to El Alto , from there the Ruta 19 another 23 kilometers to the southwest to Viacha . Here the unpaved Ruta 43 branches off in a south-westerly direction, from which a country road branches off in a westerly direction after 43 kilometers and after another 34 kilometers via Jesús de Machaca reaches the village of Corpa . From there the road continues to Desaguadero on the south bank of Lake Titicaca.
