resume

The Corrientes expired in September 1894 at Blohm & Voss from the stack and was found in February 1895 by the Hamburg Süd in service. Her maiden voyage took her from Hamburg to South America in September 1894. From 1911 she drove for Hamburg Süd for three years under the Argentine flag in the Buenos Aires - Patagonia service. In 1917 it was confiscated by Brazil and renamed Guaratuba . From 1927 she drove for Lloyd Brasileiro and was scrapped in Rio de Janeiro in 1936 .

Technical specifications

With a length of 104.5 m and a width of 12.56 m, the Corrientes was measured with 3,775 GRT and had a load capacity of 5,125 dwt. Two cylinder boilers were used for steam generation , which, like the triple expansion steam engine, had an indexed nominal output of 1,500 PS (1100 kW), produced at the shipyard in Hamburg. With this, the Corrientes reached a speed of 10.5  knots . There were facilities for passengers 12 passengers of first class and 144 passengers in steerage available. The crew consisted of 38 men.

Hamburg-Süd steamers 1886–1894

The Corrientes was the penultimate of 19 ships in a new, larger and faster class of ships in Hamburg Süd at the end of the 19th century. These ships were delivered from four different shipyards from 1886 onwards, and they were the first Hamburg-Süd ships to be equipped with a triple expansion steam engine. They weren't just sister ships, because they differed due to the different shipyards, and there were further developments in terms of technology but also size. The Bahia (Armstrong Shipyard, Newcastle, 1886) was measured at 2,175 GRT, the Corrientes, however, at 3,775 GRT. Starting with the Olinda , which was delivered in 1887 , Hamburg Süd had its ships equipped with a dynamo and electrical lighting.
