production

Flying lotus

Cosmogramma is the third album by the American musician Flying Lotus . It was on May 3, 2010 at the label Warp Records released.

Music genre

On Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus tries consciously to distance itself from its previous style of music and production, after it has been imitated by a large number of young artists. Flying Lotus writes its songs on Cosmogramma in a more conceptual approach, with a concrete vision of the end product. The result goes beyond its previous construction of beats and mixes the usual rhythm-oriented basic elements with elements of jazz and glitch . Flying Lotus himself describes his album as "in a way a jazz album".

Album title

The title of the album goes back to the fact that Flying Lotus was listening to a recording of a speech by his great-aunt Alice Coltrane in an ashram . At first he misunderstood her words “cosmic drama” (“cosmic drama”) as “Cosmogramma” (interpretable as “cosmic grammar”); It wasn't until much later that he found out that the word “Cosmogramma” really exists.
