Sophie Cossaeus (born July 18, 1893 in Wiesbaden ; † September 23, 1965 in Arnoldshain , Schmitten (Hochtaunus) ; also: Sophie Cossäus) was a German actress .

Life

Sophie Cossaeus b. Weingärtner made his debut at the Mainz City Theater in 1908 . From 1911 to 1914 she played theater in Freiburg im Breisgau . After the death of her husband in 1920 she came to Frankfurt am Main , where she first appeared as a soubrette at the Albert Schumann Theater . She later moved to the theater director Arthur Hellmer's New Theater . In 1930 she switched to the character subject and accepted an engagement as a youthful naive in Offenbach . From 1934 to 1944 she was a member of the Rhein-Mainische Landesbühne ensemble , with whom she toured and also played in front theaters to look after soldiers during World War II . In 1944 she was conscripted as a worker in the armaments industry.

After the war, she first joined a traveling theater and traveled through the French occupation zone with her from 1945 to 1948 . In 1948 she returned to Frankfurt am Main as a character actress. She was a member of various ensembles, first in the Intimate Theater and later with Fritz Rémond in the Small Theater in the Zoo . Her prominent roles included Gudula Rothschild in Carl Rößler's Die five Frankfurter and Abby Brewster in arsenic and lace . However, their popularity was mainly based on their participation in the Hesselbach family . In the four movies she played the neighbor of the Hesselbach, Mrs. Ottendorf, in the radio play and in the television series Hesselbach GmbH and Die Firma Hesselbach, Miss Lohmeier.

Sophie Cossaeus died on September 23, 1965 in Arnoldshain. Since the individual episodes of Die Firma Hesselbach were sometimes recorded well before the broadcast date towards the end of the series, Sophie Cossaeus played in episode 45, which was broadcast on December 29, 1966. Her grave is in the Frankfurt main cemetery in Gewann F, grave number 1459; she lies there with her daughter Hilde, who died in 1941 at the age of 23.
