Costanzo Picco

Costanzo Picco (1916 or 1917 - December 9, 2009 ) was an Italian officer and skier.

Life

Costanzo Picco was an officer with the rank of lieutenant and member of the 4th Army as early as the Second World War , among other things deployed in cooperation with the Giustizia e Libertà in the Maira Valley .

After the war he was at the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 in the demonstration competition military patrol run as first lieutenant team leader of the Italian team that achieved fourth place.

Shortly after taking part in the Winter Olympics, he was employed as a captain at the mountain combat school ( Scuola Militare Alpina ) in Aosta . In 1952 he became company commander of the 43rd / Battaglione Alpini Sciatori " Monte Cervino " (ski company) in Aosta. On behalf of the Scuola Militare Alpina he was in command of the 37th Alpini Company, which in 1955 under his leadership transported the larger than life statue of Christ Alfredo Bais to the Balmenhorn and erected it there. From 1960 to 1965 he was a lieutenant colonel in command of the Scuola Militare Alpina . Picco was also President of the Associazione Sport Invernali Valle d'Aosta (ASIVA). Picco later became a general. Until his death on December 9th, 2009 at the age of 92, he was still an active mountain guide on the so-called Trenker Trek .
