Courbu Noir

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Courbu Noir is an old red grape variety that is grown in the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region in south-west France . It is part of Appellations - wines Béarn , otherwise it is but rarely used.

The red wines are light colored and moderately rich in tannins ( tannins ).

The grape variety used to be grown in the region around Irouléguy in a mixed set with the Manseng Noir grape variety and marketed under the undifferentiated term Noirs du Pays (Basque: herriko beltza ).

A study published in 2007 shows that the grape varieties Courbu , Courbu Noir, Gros Courbu , Lauzet and Petit Courbu are genetically very closely related. The Gros Manseng variety also shows genetically related characteristics.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white, with a carmine-red tinge. The almost red young leaves are spotted bronze (anthocyanin spots)
  • The slightly pentagonal leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are slightly three-lobed. The stalk bay is lyren-shaped open or slightly closed. The leaf margin is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set wide compared to other grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is slightly blistered.
  • The cylindrical to conical grapes are medium-sized and have dense berries. The rounded berries are medium-sized. When fully ripe, they are deep blue to black in color.

The Courbu Noir grape ripens around 30 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late for a grape variety internationally. The variety is considered low-yielding.

Synonyms

The Courbu Noir grape variety is also known under the names Courbu rouge and Dolceolo. It was also incorrectly called Ardonnet, but is not related to the Ardonnet grape variety .
