List of grape varieties

Lauzet is an autochthonous white grape variety from the Sud-Ouest wine-growing region in southwest France . The endangered variety is next to Courbu and Camaralet de Lasseube the blending partner in the white wines of the appellations Béarn and Jurançon as used. It is no longer used purely by type. It results in fruity, spicy wines with strong acidity (→ acidity (wine) ). There are still nine clones of which the varieties 732, 862 and 896 are approved for quality wine cultivation.

A study published in 2007 shows that the grape varieties Courbu , Courbu Noir , Gros Courbu , Lauzet and Petit Courbu are genetically very closely related. The Gros Manseng variety also shows genetically related characteristics.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is very hairy with white wool. The yellowish young leaves are slightly hairy.
  • The medium-sized leaves are usually five-lobed, strongly curved and strongly wavy on the edge of the leaf (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are very large compared to the grape varieties.
  • The cylindrical grape is large and dense. The round berries are small and greenish in color, tending to an amber hue.

The Lauzet ripens approx. 25 to 30 days after the Gutedel and thus belongs to the grape varieties of the late second ripening period (see the chapter in the article Grape variety). This makes it one of the mid-late ripening varieties. The variety has a very vigorous growth. It is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.

Compared to the raw rot the variety Lauzet is quite vulnerable.
