Cronschwitz is a district of Wünschendorf / Elster in the district of Greiz in Thuringia .

geography

Cronschwitz is located at the confluence of the Bendelbach in the White Elster and is today on the southern edge of Wünschendorf / Elster.

history

Due to its special location on the southern edge of the Wünschendorf basin, the elongated ridge of the Veitsberg was inhabited by Wünschendorf in prehistoric times. This then also had significance for the later settlement of the founding of villages and religious institutions. In addition, the bailiffs von Weida founded the Mildenfurth monastery in 1193 . The abundance of fish in the Elster and its favorable natural location were also reasons for the settlement. Cronschwitz was first mentioned on October 4, 1209. In 1238 Jutta, the wife of Heinrich IV., Vogt von Weida, founded another house monastery for female family members and the female nobility , the Cronschwitz Monastery . A ruin still exists today.

Cronschwitz also appears in history under the spellings Cronspitz and Kronschwitz .

Cronschwitz today

Today the people of the area also use the favorable location for tourism from the nearby large cities and from afar. With the Kanu-Scheune-Cronschwitz, the Gasthof zum Klosterhof and the parish of Sankt Veit, the community is supported in its work. The agricultural areas are also cultivated according to the signs of the new times.
