geography

Mosen is located south-east of Wünschendorf / Elster on the connecting road to Endschütz on a level raised in stages of the extended bank area of the Elster .

history

The first mention of the name Mosen comes from the year 1225; Wolfgang Kahl proves March 31, 1206 what should be checked.

In 1455 Wilhelm von Mosen took part in the Altenburg prince robbery . The place belonged from 1826 to December 31, 1912 as an exclave to Sachsen-Meiningen and then fell to the Grand Duchy of Saxony through an exchange of territory .

Mosen had a large manor , which last belonged to the farmer Erich Fricke, together with the manor Endschütz , and which was expropriated in 1945 without compensation. Despite being occupied by refugees from the Eastern Territories, the castle was demolished on the basis of Soviet Order 209 . A number of farm buildings, the bell tower and the stately wall around the estate were also affected. The overall appearance of the manor was destroyed.

On September 2, 1995, the community of Mosen lost its independence and became a district of Wünschendorf.

About 300 people live in the district.

Half-timbered house

Nicolai Church (Mosen) , built at the end of the 13th century, is located in the center of Mosen . The church was used until 1970 and had to be closed due to structural defects and deterioration. At the beginning of 2000, an initiative consisting of committed residents of the Mosen Heimatverein, the parish council, a large number of helpers and donors started the reconstruction. The crowning glory was the consecration of the church by the then regional bishop Christoph Kähler on September 4, 2004. Since then, the church has been used again for church services and also serves as a venue for various cultural events such as art exhibitions, concerts, amateur theater, etc. a.

A remnant of the castle / manor house, which was demolished after 1945, and partly converted farm buildings can still be found from the former manor. After the castle was largely removed, a road cuts through the formerly self-contained estate.

Mosen is also located at the upper exit of the Wünschendorf fairy tale forest and serves as the starting point for many excursions and hikes around the Elstertal and the associated Elster cycle path .

In Mosen there is the Nature and Local History Association with the Fire Brigade Mosen eV section. This enriches the cultural life in the village with annual events such as the annual setting up of the maypole , village and children's festivals, Easter bonfires, Christmas parties for all age groups, etc. a.

Mosen also has a village and local history museum in the village community center, a pub and a courtyard café that is open in the summer months.

Due to the large number of events and the active village life, Mosen took 3rd place in the competition Our village has a future in the district of Greiz in 2008 .
