Veitsberg is a district of Wünschendorf / Elster in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

geography

The district of Veitsberg is bounded to the east by the White Elster and northwest by the Weida . On the west bank of the Elster, the ridge of the long Veitsberg rises up to the mouth of the Weidam. The mountain, the former castle , St. Vitus's Church and the place bore or still bear the name of the strategic mountain ridge and confirm the importance of this area.

history

According to Kahl, the first documentary mention of the village Veitsberg was on October 21, 1162 . According to JC Zenker, a Voigt Erwin von Glisberg built a castle on the Veitsberg in 974.

The natural and strategic importance of this district is the link between Mildenfurth , Cronschwitz and Weida from then and now. Due to its special location on the southern edge of the Wünschendorf basin, the elongated ridge of the Veitsberg was inhabited by Wünschendorf in prehistoric times. This then had an impact on the later settlement and also on the construction of the Mildenfurth and Cronschwitz monasteries .
