Crystal Cruises is a shipping company founded in 1988 and based in Brentwood , Los Angeles ( United States ). Crystal Cruises was a subsidiary of the Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha until 2015 ; In 2015, Genting Hong Kong took over the company.

New buildings

In July 2015, the shipping company ordered three newbuildings, which were to be delivered by Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven from 2018 . With a size of 119,000 GT, they should provide space for 1000 passengers, mini -submarines and helicopters . In addition, the Megastar Taurus of the parent company Star Cruises was integrated into the fleet as Crystal Esprit at the end of 2015 . The delivery of the first new building was later postponed to 2019.

In March 2016, another new building, the Crystal Endeavor, was ordered from Lloyd Werft. Construction of the ship, measured at 25,000 GT, was scheduled to begin in May 2016, with delivery scheduled for August 2018. The construction should then take place at MV Werften Stralsund . According to later plans, the € 350 million Crystal Endeavor should be delivered in 2019 and used at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan. Two sister ships should follow in 2020 and 2021. Construction began on January 15, 2018 in Stralsund, while the ship will not be commissioned until 2020. The ship was laid down on August 21, 2018. The three other newbuildings belonging to the Diamond class are not expected to be put into service until 2022. Furthermore, they should now have a size of only 67,000 GT.

River cruises

Crystal Bach

In the summer of 2016, Crystal River Cruises was also launched, a brand for river cruises in Europe. The Crystal Mozart has been used on the Danube since July 2016 .

In July 2015, two river cruise ships were also initially ordered from the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven with delivery in 2017. The order was expanded to include two more ships in November 2015.

The first new building of the class, the Crystal Bach , was handed over to the shipping company on August 3, 2017 in Wismar. The second ship, the Crystal Mahler , was delivered on September 20, 2017. The Crystal Debussy was delivered on March 8, 2018. In April 2018 the identical Crystal Ravel was delivered.

aviation

From April 3, 2016, Crystal Cruises guests can use a Bombardier Global Express XRS for up to 12 passengers. The purchase of a Boeing 777-200LR “Worldliner” (for up to 84 passengers) is planned for 2017 and the purchase of a Boeing 787 in a purely one-class configuration for 60 seats in 2018 .

Former ships

The Crystal Harmony was part of the fleet from July 1990 to February 2006 . She is a sister ship of the Crystal Symphony . The handover to the parent company took place on February 26, 2006. Since then, the ship has been operating for Asuka Cruises under the name Asuka II .
